Create Your Own Spell (10 points)
Avada Kedavra is the only spell used today whose incantation derives from a Semitic language. Create your own spell with an incantation derived from a Semitic language (such as Amharic, Aramaic, Arabic, or Hebrew)! In no fewer than 100 words, tell me everything you can about the spell: this should include, at its minimum, what its incantation is, how you cast the spell, and what it does. While developing this spell, you may want to think about its history - as well as if its magic would work differently if its incantation was spoken in a different language such as Latin!
EXTRA CREDIT (15 points each; choose up to 2)
PUZZLE OPTION: At its heart, casting Avada Kedavra is all about extinguishing the life force of your subject - a lot like turning out a sequence of Muggle lights. To practice getting into the mindset needed to cast this spell, we will play a round of the Muggle game "Lights Out"! If you go to THIS SITE, you will find a version of this game. Win the game (on either the 5 x 5 grid or the 9 x 9 grid) by turning out all the lights (the squares should all be black, not white) and include a LINK to a screencap of your completed game!
OPINION OPTION: Do you believe that Avada Kedavra is the most efficient way to end the life of another living creature or not? Or does it depend on the circumstances? Explain your reasoning in at least 175 words!
CREATIVE WRITING OPTION: In honor of the last letter of the words "Avada" and "Kedavra", write a story featuring an Unforgivable Curse which is at least 50 words in length, so that the following two things are true:
1) At least 1/3 of the words in the story use "A" as either the first or last letter of the word.
2) AT LEAST TEN words in the story begin with a "K".
GRAPHICS OPTION: Over the course of Harry Potter's lifetime, Voldemort attempted to kill Harry on three different occasions using Avada Kedavra. Create an image of Harry surviving one of Voldemort's attempt to kill Harry and include a LINK to your image!
